Yesterday... while Flyin' to Amana, with Grandson, Justin... Ridin' Shotgun,
we had to make a stop, at 'The Bank'.
Had some check's that needed to be deposited.
The Young Man, who was helping at the Fairfax State Savings Bank...
Drive Thru, wasn't familiar... but, was Very Sweet.

Sent the deposits through.
The Young Man, told me..
there...
was a problem.
???
Informed the Young Man...
that,
In the last 40 years... there's never been a 'problem'
With These Deposits.

Son, Justin... had to be called, by The Young Man.
Justin... didn't answer him.

Justin answered when I called, while sitting in The Fairfax Bank...

The Amana Estate Sale is Coming Together!!

We moved the Furniture, mostly... yesterday.
; )
We're trying to condense the Furniture, into fewer rooms.

{When I say "we"... I mean, Pal, Bill... and Grandson, Justin.

Mid 1800's Amana Wardrobe.

It's Shelved Out, inside.
Which... I'm guessing Buck, the Woodworker... who lived here, most likely did.
That's GREAT!!
Wardrobe's were mainly built to hold hanging clothes.
Most Homes, back in the 1800's, and before... didn't have 'Closets'.
A Dwelling was Taxed, back then... by how many Rooms were inside.
Free-standing 'Wardrobes' were 'Closets'.

I have a mid 1800's Wardrobe, in my Bedroom. It has two doors.
Behind one door, are many, original shelves.
Behind the other, is set up for hanging clothes.
I... LOVE IT!!

Frankly, I would Never buy a Dresser with Drawer's...
for Clothing, again.
Use our Dressers for Linen... Bedding, and Quilts.
but...
So LOVE having folded clothing on Shelves.

Jeans... and Tops.
I hang Favorite Coats... on the opposite side.

The Shelves... Buck fitted the above Wardrobe with, thankfully... he didn't nail in, so... they can be removed.
{but... Why?? : ) }
The Wardrobe is Walnut...

Door's are pegged, and hand chamfered.

One Board Sides.
Full Cut Lumber.
Not Paneled.
Back in 'The Day'... these Wonderful Cupboard's were used for far more...
than Pies, and Bakery.

They were Workhorses.

The Lovely... Punched Tin Panels, allowed ventilation...

Not Insects.

Often, 'Food'... was stored short term inside, as well.

Back then, when these Cupboard's were constructed, there was No Electricity.

At Best.... Ya might have an 'Ice Box'.

Ice...
from an
Ice House,
{A Building on the Farm... that held Ice, packed in Sawdust...
that was
Harvested...
Hand Cut...
with Ice Saws, saved in the Winter from Creeks, Rivers...and Ponds...
that were
Close to Home.
Close...
because when they cut the Blocks of Ice... most of the time, they'd Hand Carry...

'Home'.
Depending on where the Ice... was Harvested...

Couldn't sleep.
Posted the above image, of The Rabbit Hole's door, then...
went to bed.
It was 'Late'.
Back... is much better, today.
Not where I'd like it to be... but, much better.

That bronze plaque...
from a Confessional, long ago...
hangs on The Rabbit Hole's door.
Has for 15... plus, years, or so.
Bought it from Pal, Maurina...
she brought it to one of the Sales here.

When I saw the plaque... it, truly... struck a chord.
Seemed at that time... the People... who visited The Rabbit Hole, had some horrific stories to tell.
Old Pal, Julie...

sent Customers, from Amana, I'd send them... to her, from The Rabbit Hole.

Julie... and I visited, every morning, I'd ask Julie... about her thoughts, on Folk's she'd sent my way... the day prior,

didn't hear their stories.
They... didn't 'share' with Julie, like they did...with me,

The Rabbit Hole.
I remember walking to the house... after closing Shop...
many times...
feeling like my feet were lead.

heart, was so incredibly heavy, after hearing what So Many, were battling.

I was outside The Rabbit Hole, painting a sign.
Had a roll of paper towels, that... had sayings on it.
Quotes.
One of the 'sayings' really touched me, decided to paint a sign, with it.
"Be Kind to Yourself... and Others."
Thought about it for awhile... realized, it must be Done, in That Order.

{Not easy... to do, but... Important.}
As I was painting, a New Cadillac pulled up at The Rabbit Hole.
4 Ladies... climbed out...
I was sitting on the ground, Workin' on my 'Masterpiece'...

Welcomed The Ladies...
told them to have Fun... Diggin' at The Rabbit Hole, and, if...
they had any questions, they knew where to find me.

They found a few Treasures....
but, the last Lady... I dealt with,
had The Plaque in her hand,
and...
was trying to shove two, one dollar bill's in my hand, as she kept walking towards the car.
Uh...oh.

I said... "Ma'am... that isn't for sale."

She said...
"Yes it is... and I want it. My Sister will love it."
: )
I said...
" Ma'am... that plaque is Not... for Sale. It was Nailed to my Door."
as I handed her two dollars back to her,

Retrieved The Plaque from Her Grip.

I, promptly walked to the door of The Rabbit Hole,
grabbed SCREWS...

The SCREW GUN.

had to make a Big Shift, with the lift, or.... drop my end.
