I received a call...from the Girl...that lives...in the house...Dad lived in...back in the late 30's or 40's....where all the Civil War Papers were found... about the Old Cupboard...I was so enamoured with...on my visit...several weeks ago...It was in the Original House...on the Farm....built...in the 1850's or 60's...that became the Summer Kitchen, when the New House...was built...in the 1870's....or '80's....
I had made her an offer...when I last visited, today... she asked for a bit more... I told her...if...it can be taken out..in ONE piece...I'd agree to her price...if it came out...like a 'puzzle'... I'd have to stick to my offer...
She agreed...
I dropped the 'bomb' on John...that he'd better grab the sawzall...pry bars...hammer...extension cords...and Lot's of Gatorade...just before I was ready to head out the door...{and...he was gonna have to come with...: ) }{I never like to give him too much time...to Think....about these little Endeavors...: ) }
I knew...it was going to be a Tuff...Job...The Old Summer Kitchen...was leaning...hard.... on the Old Cupboard...
In return...The Old Cupboard...was...Leaning....Hard...on the Massive Stone Fireplace...{ever heard of...being 'Between a Rock...and a Hard Spot'...well..this Old Cupboard...was There!}
John removed all of the Wonderful...picture frame moulding...around the case of the Cupboard...to find...the bottom was set into the floor... not good...It woud have to go out....backwards...
The cupboard...was Tight...fitted....even after a hundred...and sixty years....They had it all nailed in...{square nails..} and had many support boards...on the top...extending to the rafters...
John kept saying..."I don't think...it's too heavy... once we get it out of this tight spot...it should be a breeze"....{I said...n o t h i n g...I Knew...Better...This is a BIG...Cupboard...Walnut...and Pine...created...from full dimension lumber....maybe....milled on the Farm... it's Deep...and Tall...{close to 8 feet...} I Knew...it was going to be a Gut...Buster...and..ahhh...it was...oh dear....}
It took us...3 hours...to get it out...and...it was Toasty....in the Old House...Mighty...Toasty!
We were both Covered...in a hundred and sixty years...of Dust...Pulverized Mouse...Turds...and...who knows...what...before we had the Old Darling...Loaded...onto the Ford...
{Sweat...is such a Great Glue...for that Stuff! Our Shirts were Soaked!!! }
I had visited with the Girl...about the Old Hand Forged...Fire Place Cranes...as well... {I Love...anything...Old...and Made by Hand...}they are...Wonderful...John had a heck of a time...getting those out... But...after Jacking around With The Beast...of a Wedged in Cupboard... it seemed like a walk in the park! Those...are already sold... I hope they go into...another wonderful Fire Place...
It was a Long...Day...but...a Good One!
I'm headed to What Cheer..in the Morn...While I drive...I'll be trying to figure out...Where...Oh Where... I'm going to find a spot...in the House...for Dad's Old Cupboard...{that's what it is...to me...} I'm so Happy...we could save it... I don't know how much longer...the Old Summer Kitchen...will be standing...it's getting...very tired....
Me too...
Love...to ya...

Someone...a hundred years ago...painted this Flower...on the Old Summer Kitchen Window...that was next...to the old Cupboard.... so...cool... |
The Cupboard...will all go back together....perfectly...no harm done.. : ) {this image shows...how tight it was to the Hearth...oh my...} |
