Had a Glorious Day... Down the Rabbit Hole!!!

 

Sunday... was such an Awesome Day!!!

{Thanks...to All...who Visited! }

I...got So Much Done!!!

Worked in the Yard...

Got the Tent... Down!!!

But... what really made my Day...

was a Little... Opossum...

: )

Saturday...morning... as I was headed to the house....from the rabbit hole...

Something caught my eye...

It shouldn't have...

Back... behind the tent... is an old stock tank...

It doesn't hold water... only an inch...or so... just below the drain....

it had old leaves in it... and an inch of water....

and...

a little Opossum... curled up... in the wet leaves...

I stopped in my tracks...

as my heart...sank...

He... looked... lifeless...

I grabbed a long board... and slid it in... to form a ramp....

hoping... if... he was alive... he could climb out...

as the board...slid close to him... he moved...

{: ) }

he..was alive... but... how weak...was he?

how long... had he been there?

oh my...

I didn't know...if he'd have the strength...to climb out...

and it was so...cold....

I wondered... how long... had he been in the muck...

yet... I waited... a while...to see... if he would find his way out...

No...

When I went back... about 20 minutes later... he was still... laying there....

hadn't moved an inch...

I ran up to the house to get John...

I have come face to face...with a Opossum...

before...

and didn't want to go there...again...

So..thought I'd see if John would...

{as Liz said... this morning... when she heard the tale...}
"Dad...hadn't been 'Scarred'... yet..."
{she, Justin, Winston {our Beloved German Shepherd} and I encountered...
a Full Grown Opossum in a tree...
inches from our faces... in the Dead of Night... next to our Frantically...Clucking Hen House...
Years ago...
Needle Teeth..Barred...and Hissing!
YIKES!!!!
 It was Every Dog...Woman and Child...
For Themselves!!!
all I could muster...was...
"Run!!! Run!!! Run!!!"
yeah... and I was Leading The Pack!!!!}
Yeah...Exactly...Dad hadn't been 'Scarred'... yet...

He found an old bread box... tin... that I was going to pitch...

and scooped him up...

{Heavy Gloves on...}

The Opossum... hissed a little... but...was too weak... it seemed...to struggle...

I was Sick...

He placed him... in the Sun... under the Lilac Bushes...

I mounded a little clean Straw...around him...

John put Cat Food...and water... next to him...

and we left him alone...

{kept peeking... every now and then... hoping... he'd be gone... but... no...

he was curled up... in the old tin... lifeless...

Then...the wind... blew the lid over... on the old tin... but...the Straw... kept it open... about 6 inches...

the Sun... was still... I thought... keeping the box...warm...

When I went to bed.. that night....

all I could think about... was that little..Opossum...

From my window... he was just... 20 feet....

It was cold... would I have to bury him... in the Morning...?

I put the little Opossum...in my Prayers....

{John... will rescue... but... he has a Real...Hard Time... Burying... so... It's me...or Justin...}

I hadn't gotten much sleep...the night before...as Miss. Scarlett...and Polly...were my Bunk Mates!

Oh My Gosh!

No Room...for The Old Gal!

and...I wasn't getting much.... Saturday Night... either...

When I woke up... the first thing... I didn't want to ask...

John...

was....

"How's... the little Critter?"

but...I did...

"He's Gone!"

All the food was gone...as well!!!

Hurray!!!!

THAT... Made...My Day!!!

I was on Cloud Nine...All Day!!!

I put a board...in the old trough... so that won't happen again....

I don't let anything hold water... and keep things flipped... because...I know... what can happen... I never dreamt... this would happen...

The little Critter... was just a little..too...little...

to be able to climb out...

When I walked in the shop...

I had two...little Birds... Flitting around...inside...

How they got there...I'll never know...

I turned the music off... and opened the doors... all day... hoping they would hear the old fountain... and find their way out...

They did... late in the afternoon...

oh my...

The Rabbit Hole...

what an...

Adventure!

John and I... took down the Big...Cemetery Entrance... that was at the front of the Shop... yesterday...

It had been sent sideways... in a Storm...this Summer...

There were Three Birds Nests... in the Gnarly... Grapevine... that had taken over the Old Iron Structure...

I could hear the Baby Birds.... in them...

The Huge Vine... wouldn't let the Massive Piece... come down... it just looked... a Mess... all twisted from the 70 mph winds....

We took ratchet straps... and drove posts in the ground... to be sure...it stayed upright....

then...we left it alone... until... the Birds had moved out....

We saved the Nests... they are such a Hoot!

Plastic bag fragments...... Old Lace... Moss...from the rabbit hole....

all entwined...

oh my...

Critters...

The Outside, Front of the Shop...got a Good... Cleaning...

yesterday...

I cut vines... and moved tons of concrete...

Still have a long way to go.. before the Snow Flies...

I'm starting to go through...CHRISTMAS STUFF... in Storage!

As I was leaving... my friend, Gina... who had called me to come see the Farm Stuff...and helped me load... from the Barn, yesterday...
I went to give her hand a squeeze... and a Thank You...
We both... looked at our hands...
Covered in Grease... and Dirt... from lugging Farm Junk...and Scaling the Outside and In... {way up High...} of the Barns...
We clasped our hands... together...

The Halloween... Ride... a... 'Haunting'....day...

Yes... it was like... a page from an old... Halloween... Tale...

A...little Spooky...

but then...

The Ford and I were Running so Fast...

we didn't have much time to think about it...

I had Much to get done...and...didn't want to miss Justin 'J'...

and Miss. Scarlett... in costume...

I had the little Ford....wound up...tight...

We...Flew!!! 

I had to be in Wellman... to pick up several pieces I had left bids on...

at a Farm Sale... Dwight and Junell Duwa had conducted last week...

Dwight was kind enough...to bring my purchases back to their Auction House...

as I was having the Open House...

When I found Dwight...

he said he had the Old Cupboard... on his trailer...

and directed me... to the back lot...

I followed him...

then...

I saw HOW... he had hauled it home...

The Ford...and I... Froze... : )

Now... I have hauled Old Cupboards... just about... every way... one could...

I thought....

Dwight had the Old Cupboard... Wedged between...Two...Porta Potties....

Sideways...

I...know... this sounds... contrived...

but...I swear...

The First Words... that came... spilling... out of my mouth were...

"Holy...Crap"....

I knew... at that moment... what a difficult task... he had Happily Agreed to...

It was getting dark...by then...

and Little Goblins... Were Everywhere!

 I knew... I was going to miss the Kids... if The Ford and I...didn't Put The Hammer Down!

Between... Wellman... and Williamsburg....

I...was Haunted....

I slid by... a very.... scary...place...

a place... that I never knew... how to find... again...

once I'd been there....

Liz and I... were driving... years ago... and out of the corner of my eye...

I saw a Statue...

I Slammed on The Brakes...

Liz... about had a Heart Attack....

I told her what I had seen...

and.... Had...to go back....

The place... was... eerie...

and she Begged me not to go to the door...

but... I... Had to...

{It was... an unsettling place... to say the least....}

No one answered.... but... I saw an Elderly Woman... near by...

and inquired... about who owned this place... and how I could reach them...

oh...my...

This... is a Long... Story...

and one... I'll tell another day...

Just Sayin'...

I drove past it...

again... yesterday...

of all days...

Halloween...

Then... went past a House... I had forgotten about...

one... that an Old... Friend and I talked about buying....

I said... she and I... should buy this.,.. have a couple sales a year...there...

and... have an 'Escape'...

when we simply... need to...

RUN AWAY!!!!

I had nothing to offer them...
I had just 'flown ' in...to see the Kids... with the Treats...I had picked up...for them...
I wanted to grab Scarlett's Bag... of Treats... and give some of hers.. to these Children...
but... I couldn't do that....
I didn't even have any cash... I would have given...what I had...
but.. I had... nothing...

of a little girl...
of that age...
who dragged a dried up...old... Christmas Tree home...from School...
 for blocks...in the snow....
because when the Teacher {Mrs. Riddle... Loved Her.. : ) }
 asked...the day before...Christmas Break... if anyone...didn't have one...at home...
to raise their hand...
and... she... was the only one... in her class... who didn't ...

I've had it for years...

It's one.. that I have always loved...

but... seemed no one else has...

It's from the 1840's... Old....Red...Ox Blood Paint

6 feet long... by about 40 inches wide...

all pegged together....

So many have looked at it...

measured it...

borrowed it... for Weddings...

It's... Awesome...

but... it has went from Show to Show...

{from Nashville...to Minnesota... a few times...}

Lived in the Shed... in between...

I reduced the price... to 200. {I was losing 200. just to find it a HOME!}

and no...takers...

Yesterday... she was out... and had a table all picked out...for she and Nick's...new... Home...

It's a cute table...

Long...and narrow... made in the 40's... I would guess...

The Old Harvest Table... was standing there... next to us... as we visited... about her new house...

{The Old Table has become a 'Work Horse'....over the years...}

I looked at it... and said...

"Why don't you take this... Table?"

Her eyes got Big...

She said...

"I've Always Loved that Table!!! but... I never asked about it... because I thought... you wouldn't want to give it up..."

oh my.,..

I said... "I think... it's been waiting... for you..."....

She wanted to show it to Nick... and last night they came out... for him to see...

this morning she told me..... Nick said...

It's Exactly... what he Imagined....

and...

LOVED IT!!!!

LOVED EVERYTHING...ABOUT IT!!!

YAY!!!!

That... made my Day!!!

I know...it sounds... silly...

{I had blisters...No Way...could I wear shoes...  }
Filthy...Dirty....Everywhere...
 Dirt...stuck to me like Glue....
everywhere skin was showing...
from all of the Sweat...
 {it was August... no air... in the FUSO... and we had...just... loaded...the entire truck...
and...we had a Grueling... week...prior...of loading...and doing the show...}
I looked at him... and said...
"I hope you don't find... much wrong...we're hauling Antiques... heading home... from a show...
 My Show... was a little tuff...
We just busted our...Fanny's... Loading this Big Daddy...
 I'm...Beat... and we...still have a Lot of...miles...to cover tonight...
The last...thing I need...today... is a Ticket...: ) : ) : ) "
He smiled...
gave me a warning....
and sent us on our way...
{had a 'marker light' out... }
{The prior D.O.T. officer that pulled me over... asked if he could open the back door... so he could take a look at my... load...
I said... "Go ahead... : )"
When he slung it open...
a Mountain of Old Quilts.... fell out...right on top of him....Buried Him!! oh...dear...
Thankfully... we laughed about it...

{all she could muster... watching the FUSO's Mirror... nearly clicking the Bridge... to what looked like... a Thousand foot drop...and wondering how long... the FUSO would Float!!!

I was Groping for my Camera... and Peg...was looking at the Pretty Water... at Fins.. she was sure... were Sharks or Dolphins... ??? !!!

Danced me back to our room...

Then... we were up... bright and early...  heading on...to Indiana...
