Fairfarren... Nottoway.

Was deeply saddened to hear the horrible news, that the
Beautiful...
Nottoway Plantation,
was destroyed by a horrific fire,
yesterday.

  Friend, Shelly,
{Hoppy's Primitive and Proper, La Porte City, Iowa}
had posted on FB, this morning...
she could take 'The Nottoway' off of her 'Bucket List'.

What...
??????

then,
  read the news concerning...
'The Nottoway'.
: ( : ( : (

In 2010, Dear Pal, Allyson... invited me to join her on a trip through
 'The South'
winding up...
 in
New Orleans.
: )

A Dream...
of mine, since I was a child.

I LOVE The South.
Always have, long before ever seeing much of it in person, but...
oh my.
There's Somethin'...
 about
'The South'.
<3

Iowa... doesn't have Spanish Moss... hanging from the Trees, but...
'Simply Iowa' has had Spanish Moss... softening every corner, and... vignette, for decades.
You'll find Spanish Moss, hanging from the many
goopy... prismed.... Chandelier... 'arms', down The Rabbit Hole.
<3
It's Everywhere. Has been, Long before I saw it naturally growing, in person... in 'The South'.
<3

Allyson is a 'Planner'.
She outdid herself...
'Planning' our Trip to New Orleans.
: )
oh...my.

We stayed at The Nottoway Plantation, on our way.

Had Free Rein over the Entire 53,000 Square Feet,
of
The Incredible...
 'Nottoway'.
Just....
Us.
; )

We enjoyed Mint Juleps... at the Wonderful Tavern,
in the basement, of The Nottoway.

We roamed throughout...
 the incredible... Plantation.
We ate a light supper, on the Beautiful...
third story...
covered porch, overlooking the
Mighty Miss.
: )

{'Wandered'. : ) No time to 'edit'... on that Beautiful... Trip. : ) }

This, above... and the below... images, aren't mine.

Loved the above.
<3
Overlooking the Mighty Miss.

The Nottoway was built in 1859.
It... has Quite a Story.
if...
ya have a moment, look it up.
53,000 square feet.
The Architect burned his Drawings of The Nottoway, so it could never be copied.

It was 'The Wife' that saved The Nottoway from The Union, during The Civil War.
: )
Most every Plantation... was burned to the ground, back then.
Not...
The Nottoway.
: )
<3

Remember listening to its 'History' back then...
being...
Blown Away.
<3

Many of the Antiques that furnished the restored Nottoway, had ties to Iowa.

Virl Banowetz.
; )
{Banowetz Antiques, Maquoketa, Iowa.}
Sister, Chery... did much work for Virl, back in The Day.
: )
Virl... adored Chery. : )
{Who Wouldn't?? <3}

Seems Virl, tracked down
 'Original'
'Authenticated'
Nottoway 'Period' furnishings, for the last restoration.
Not Cheap... they said, but...
Worth It!!
; )

Indeed.

If Anyone... could Track Down Antiques,
it would be Virl!!!
: )
{Chery... adored Virl, too. : ) He was a Good Guy.
I, always enjoyed dealing with him. : )
He was Such a Character!!! : )}
Oh My!!

Called Allyson, and... broke to news to her, late... this morning.
She, like me... was Stunned.
: (
Told her, how Grateful I am, that... she included me on that beautiful trip.
So... Grateful, we... had the opportunity to 'See' It.
: )

Was going to time stamp... Fairfax's latest...
'video'.

Nope.

Spent the time, instead... going over images, and blog stories...
from our 2010 Trip to New Orleans.
; )

Love to Ya....
Prayers for All.

Barb C.
