Wimpy and Rose...The Dear Hearts...{ and the best Kolache makers anywhere!}

I had to get a picture of this sweet couple to share with you. I have known Wimpy for 15 years or more, he has been a 'Ring Man' for several local auctioneers in the area, and always calls me when he sees 'Barb' stuff, on one of his sales. Rose makes Kolaches for the near by churches, friends and neighbors. They are truly the best! My Mother is full blooded Czech, and all of us were raised on Kolaches, she never made them, it's quite a process, and some folks never get the hang of it. Rose does. I asked her if sometime I could come up and help her make them, and learn, she seemed willing to share her expertise, Wimpy, however disclosed, that Rose had a secret ingredient included in her Kolaches, so I asked her if she'd have to kill me, if I found out the secret, Rose just laughed, and said, no. I hope I get the opportunity to learn, and carry on the tradition. 'til next time, Barb C.

Barb,
There's a place in LaGrange, Texas that makes Kolaches. Once you have them, there is no substitute for a breakfast pastry. Ha! What am I talking about! Not just breakfast, snack, lunch, afternoon snack, evening snack! That's my problem, I can't eat just one. If you ever find out her recipe, you must share!

Ah-my dad is full blooded czech and his mom made wonderful kolachies. Sad to say-I never got the recipes passed down to me. I did get a cookbook from the Bohemian Cafe in Omaha. I'm going to have to risk the chance and try to make them. They won't taste as good as Grandma's or your friend Rose's. Enjoy!
